Misguided Strategies for Rock Creek: The Unintended Consequence: Part II
There is and has only been one major safety problem for the City of Fairway. The number one cause of water fatalities in America are Flash floods. The safety of our citizens is threatened by the multiple Rock Creek Retention ponds. Yet, our response to flash flooding was to build a Highway bridge, a dangerous mud/water Retention Holding Pond and ignore the Dam at the Fairway exit of Rock Creek into the Kansas City Country Club. We need assurance that all what is being claimed by the County and Fairway is true. All of these changes affect the private property of Fairway citizens. There has been no discussions and only prevarication when asked.
Our City government has acquiesced to the pressure from the Johnson County Storm Water Management to build a Retention Pond for the protection of Mission Hills and Kansas City Country Club. No other conclusion is possible after the bitter fight over a bridge that was proven not necessary. It is time that Fairway takes back its independence.
The Unintended or Intended Consequence of building a huge Highway Bridge was that it also built a flood Retention Pond under the new bridge. As the mass of water fills the Retention Pond and changes the stream flow, it creates a growing backup and force that further endangers our homes and property.
Fairway needs to hire an independent Hydrological Engineer for review of all the work that has been done to Rock Creek. Fairway is in need of a new and different type of Mayor that recognizes the danger, Citizens rights and independence of Fairway.
PresentationIIIB, is a further example of this City government’s inability to learn, see and hear from the people of Fairway. The present Mayor ruled that no Power Points by citizens can be shown to, or viewed during City Council. He put plates over the outlets to insure that his ruling would be followed. This is the first time that a wider audience can see this Presentation.
